My Dog Smells!

Opinions vary when it comes to how often you should bathe your dog - but what's the right answer? There are many factors to take into consideration when deciding on your dog's grooming schedule: breed, activity level and environment for example. But what is the best gauge for determining when to bathe your dog?

Simple - when your dog smells like....DOG!

A general rule of thumb is your dog shouldn't be bathed more than once per month. Many more times than that and their skin becomes dry and irritated. Some breeds - like the Basenji - grooms itself like a cat so bathing and grooming is minimal. Shih Tzus and the Cocker Spaniel are prone to oily skin and should be bathed every 2 to 4 weeks.

It's important to get your dog into a normal bathing routine so it's not a complete shock to them when it's time for the dreaded "B" word!
